I bought a rose bush!! And a party for my son.

Today, I bought a rose bush to plant in our back yard. I love rose bushes. I hope to get a lilac bush as well, but for now, I have the rose bush.

I love lilac bushes. I used to play inside the one my mother had when I was a kid. Courtesy of Wikimedia Commons.

We have a very small back yard, approximately 15x15. I had originally wanted to plant a garden, but I've decided container gardening is what will work best for me, so I have containers and potting soil and seeds. Once I have seedlings sprouting, I'll put them all on the porch to garden. But, in the meantime, the backyard is bare. Deb wants to get a pool (Seriously! A pool in a 15x15 yard that still needs the space for the back steps and sidewalk to get out of the yard!!), but I love roses and lilacs. I grew up with them and I still like them above all other flowers. Maybe because they're pretty much self-maintaining. I don't know.

Perennials - not needing to be replanted year after year. My kind of plant - and pretty hard for me to kill since I'm lethal to most plant life. My mother had the greenest thumb I knew whereas my thumb is pretty much black as all get out. Do you want to get rid of a plant without actually putting it in the trash? Give it to me. It will be dead within a month and I'll be the one throwing it away.

When my mother passed away, I gave away her beautiful Christmas cactus to the neighbor who always loved it and loved my mom. It wouldn't have survived my house or our cats. She's happy, I didn't feel guilty about killing something Mom loved and all's right with the world.

Anyway, I hope to have the rosebush planted tomorrow or Monday before my son leaves to go back to Utah.

Which brings up the other topic. Paul is leaving on Tuesday. My daughter Debra is throwing him a surprise party tonight to send him off. I'm having to hurry right now because she's on a cleaning frenzy to get ready for this last minute party that will begin in two hours. She got home only 15 minutes ago, so we will be hustling, it seems. Anyway, I don't know when I'll see him again. This is the longest we've been together since he was 11 years old (he just turned 30 last month), so it's going to be hard saying goodbye after having had since August to get to know him all over again, I'm gonna miss that boy!!

So, this is done now and I have to sign off for today. I will be back tomorrow!!
